Editorial: State Capitol
My Editorial class went on a field trip to the Texas State Capitol.
Location: Food Vendors
For my location class I went around and took photos of Austin’s local food vendors.
Editorial: Gastronomica
For my editorial class I had to produce a photograph based off of a magazine cover of my choosing. I chose to make an image for Gastronomica magazine. Though my image is a bit gruesome I like how it came out.
Creative Concepts: Song Interpretation
For this assignment I had to produce 3 different interpretations of a song. The song I chose to interpret was “Dismantle Me” by the Distillers. Here are the lyrics:
I fancy you
But I’ve been destitute
And all I know dissolved
I could never reundo you
I will always say it’s so
I will always speak the truth
Descend into a noose
I could never reundo you
I want to bury you
Vultures circle around
Feathers float, wings flap, beaks pound
And though my hearts exposed
I could never reundo you
I will always bleed the truth
I will always speak and know
I was sent to cut you loose
I will never reundo you
I want to bury you
Dismantle me
It’s warm and humid on Swanston Street
And the air is filled with electricity
And the sky is deeper than a dream
And the sky is deeper than a
Dismantle me (I want to bury you)
And the sky is deeper than a dream (I want to bury you)
Creative Concepts: Surrealism
These are the photos that I took for an assignment where I had to show my interpretation of surrealism. I based all of these photographs on the dreams I’ve had.
Creative Concepts: Narratives
For this assignment I had to create 3 narratives using a location, prop and figure. There’s more meaning behind these photographs than just the assignment. I’m going to be using these for my final project for this class and will make a post about it later, describing my concept more in depth.
Creative Concepts: Edge of Frame
For this assignment we had to create an image of a human subject(s) in which the energy of the image gathers around its edges. Then we had to use the same technique but with objects, landscapes, urban settings, etc. I basically shot around downtown Austin and for the others I found an abandoned house. None of these photos are staged.
Advanced Lighting: Final
For my final I could do anything that I wanted as long as it was shot with strobes. This was somewhat Gregory Crewdson inspired. Also, I was trying to branch off of my recent series that I’ve been working on by using more people instead of the one subject that I’ve been using.
Advanced Lighting: Strobe Burn
This assignment I had to do a strobe burn and copy another photographer’s photograph. I decided to try and copy a Gregory Crewdson photograph, which I knew was going to be difficult and a bit ambitious. There were a lot of set backs and problems with the equipment that hindered me from achieving the photograph exactly how Crewdson did. I’m not happy with it all but it was a good learning experience.
